Over 80 Robe moving lights have been installed at the Oriental Songlei Theatre in Beijing, a new 1200 capacity cultural and arts centre, part of a major joint venture by the Beijing Oriental Songlei Musical Development Company and the Dongcheng District Government of Beijing.

The Robe fixtures include 39 x ColorWash 750 AT Tungstens, six ROBIN MMX Spots,  six ROBIN 300E Spots, six ROBIN 600E Beams, 24 x ROBIN 300E Washes and 12 ROBIN 600 LEDWashes, which were chosen by Lighting Designer Huaxiang Yang from Leafun, Robe’s Chinese distributor.

The fixtures were selected to enable designers and creatives working in the theatre a dynamic mix of lighting for all types of performance – musicals, dance shows, comedy and drama. Oriental Songlei Theatre  is both a producing and receiving house … with a lively programme and a focus on musical theatre.

At peak times the schedule features between 10 and 20 different shows a month … so flexibility was definitely a key for the lighting rig.

Deciding to go with Robe, together with the ‘smaller, lightener brighter’ concept and power saving advantages of the ROBIN range, will ensure that they can offer the very best standards of excellence in lighting  utilising the latest technologies.

In addition to that, they wanted a brand that could guarantee quality, reliability of the products coupled with an excellent after sales support – and Robe ticked all these boxes as well as coming in at a cost effective price.

With this new moving light rig in place, it will make an enormous difference to the potential quality and diversity of lightshows that can be produced. “I am confident the theatre’s LDs and all those working in the space with visiting productions will have all the creative choices they need,” states Huaxiang Yang.

Currently, the impressive circular design 1700-capacity auditorium is used for a mix of musicals, pop and music concerts and cabaret shows.
